AI Assisted POS System for Restaurants: a restaurant menu that loads before the guest gives up

A digital menu guests reach from their own phone, with no app to install and no PDF to pinch-zoom — and with sold-out items disappearing the moment the kitchen says so.

The problem

What this needed to solve

Most restaurant QR menus are a PDF. On a phone that means pinch-zooming a document designed for A4, in a dim dining room, usually while a server waits. Guests give up and ask for a paper menu, which defeats the purpose.

The second failure is staleness. A printed or PDF menu cannot show that the special went twenty minutes ago, so a server has to walk back and apologise — a small friction that happens every service.

Delivered

What the build includes

A menu built for a phone held in one hand, in a noisy room, by somebody who is hungry.

  • A mobile-first menu that opens in the browser with no app install
  • Live item availability, so a sold-out item disappears from the guest’s view
  • Menu search across the whole catalogue
  • Category filters for moving between courses and drinks
  • Item descriptions and pricing presented in a fast, distraction-free layout
  • Item photography at a size that is legible on a phone
  • A per-venue menu, so one system can serve more than one kitchen
Technology

What it runs on

Confirmed by inspecting the live application.

  • Next.js and React — confirmed from the deployed build; pages are server-rendered so the menu is readable immediately
  • Browser-based delivery — no app install, no store review cycle, identical behaviour on iOS and Android
  • Responsive image handling — item photography scales to the device rather than shipping desktop-sized files to phones
Our contribution

What ZuluLab did

ZuluLab built and operates AI Assisted POS System for Restaurants. The Hearth & Grain menu is live and public, so you can open it on your own phone and judge the load time yourself.

We publish no order volumes, average ticket values or adoption rates for this project. Those are the restaurant’s figures, not ours to share.
